Unhappy Secure Directory on Windows Platform

How do I secure a windows directory?

I've checked this forum and the only thing I found was to contact tech support and have them secure it. Tech support told me they can only secure the directory using the accounts username/password.

I want a "members" directory with just one username/password for all members but I certainly DON'T want that combination to be the account user/pass.

I've also seen info on securing a directory using FrontPage. I'm not familiar with FrontPage and I don't have Front Page (althought I could probably find someone who does and have the perform the steps).

So, can someone provide additional guidance, possibly detailed directions using Front Page or some other way? I'd hate to use a session since there will be various scripts pulled together that would have to be modified.

Thank you.

landiserve, this may be a really silly question, but with ASPSecured you have to purchase a license for it, correct. Otherwise to me it looks like a glorified address book, and doesn't actually do anything as it is by default.

Again, I could just be smokin' somthing

Maybe it is, I don't use windows, I really don't know, but I thought it could be used in the free form a bit.

I thought ASPSecured was actually freeware. To obtain the source code costs $99 or something ?

It's not really for securing directories either its more for securing "applications" or individual pages. To be honest its something that any ASP Programmer could chuck together in about 5 minutes

I used the free version and it works fine for one of my sites - on the old server we used windows auth - so much easier, but still, I just installed the code and all is well.
if all you need is one username/pass and you don't know asp yourself, just use asp secured

www.awaretoday.com is the site I used it on.

It looks like ASPSecured is what I DONT want to use. The client wants one login/password for all "members" so they can access the "member" area. I can do this in ASPSecured. However, we are building several pages for the Member area and I've installed a Forum. Now i have to put code on every page we create AND on every page of the Forum. What problems am I going to run into modifying the Forum code?

It just seems like a total pain when all I want is one user/password protected directory and you can't do it in the CP and Vortech won't do it.

Thanks anyway. Long Live Unix/Apache.

You're right. I have been frustrated over this. I checked out ASPSecured and it's not bad. Just a little extra work to dress up the login page and configure and that's it. I'm just not sure what problems I may face down the road (tomorrow) when I incorporate the Forum.

By the way, the free (installed) version only allows protecting a page by user. If you register (pay) you can register by group which would be nice if you had alot of people. Fortunately, I just need one user/password.

Thanks.
