I can also think of a few, but I'd rather not list out domains.

I totally understand, you cannot control everyone. And I agree, those leaving email for months should be hung up by their toe nails. I wouldn't even mind a cap on email allowances, if it helped the bottom line.
I'm sorry that some resellers aren't helping to correct problems, and you shouldn't have to babysit all of us, but just giving us the benefit of the doubt for small offenses would go a long way. Admin - I would never ask you to check my code. If I couldn't write properly, or fix code, or get help in the vastness that is the internet, I shouldn't be allowed to host it. But it does still help to know when my app is hogging resources or causing some other fault. I'm sure you would tell me if I was an offender of this. Just a side note... before I found you to host with over the weekend, I ran across another host that had H-Sphere that was selling a sort of virtual dedicated service, where each reseller was allotted a certain percentage (10% I think) of processor resources for their account. Can this really be done, or are they blowing smoke? If it could be done, that would be an interesting idea. Can I also ask approx. how many resellers are on each server? Is it that there are too many resellers with too many customers on a single machine? Unlimited domains is attractive, but it sure can cause conflict if their all trying to run at the same time ![]() |

AMEN!! I have suggested to Admin that we do a dump every 30 days of mail that has been left on the server. If they leave it on there for 30 days and don't download it, it's on them if they lose it. I have never seen anyone keep email on a server indefinitely for customers, nor would I expect them to.

30 day mail dumps are actually quite common among ISPs, I would fully support this, if they don't check their email in 30 days, then they don't really need the mail.
Also, I notice a few email clients are set by default not to delete the mail on the server, I don't know why, luckily I only had about 3mb of stored mail on the server (that I did not realize was even there!). And I would like to apologize for even storing that much, as most of it was crap that no one even needed/wanted. Boy are we off topic now! |

Admin I like your 3rd option the most.
Some of you seem to be for the whole charge the reseller, but unless we get those magical tools that let us monitor our clients it completely unreasonable. Anyone with a credit card can signup, we don't screen clients for their knowledge on "how not to crash a server" and thus the risk would simply be too high. Also as mentioned I am surprised you don't delete mail every 30 days. All these small things that add up you listed are all things that I don't think anyone would mind. Keeping my mail is as easy as checking a box in outlook. I am somewhat concerned however when you mentioned spamming. Do you mean actual spam or opt in mailing lists. If it is spam they shouldn't still be here, otherwise perhaps we need a solution for sending out newsletters, perhaps a queue of some sort? Finally someone mentioned all the components on the servers. I don’t know much about components on servers, but I know if I install 100 different apps on my windows machine its going to crash a burn. Admin seems to always be very accommodating in installing new components. Perhaps a set few should be selected so as to minimize problems, if these can cause problems. I think most of the problems we are facing right now can be solved by simple prevention, such as the 30 day e-mail. Also that virtual dedicated service sounds very intresting. Maybe it could be looked into? Kind reagards Nik |
