LCD monitor suggestions

I'm in the market for a bad-ass LCD monitor, but am finding it difficult to gather some good down-to-earth monitor reviews on the web.

I have a dell 1800FP, and while I don't mind the size, it's not considered the best of monitors (it's kind of the runt of the dell ultrasharps). At max brightness, it's barely able to widthstand a sunny day in the office...

Anyone have an LCD that they would recommend for graphic work?

In particular, I'm considering the Dell 2001fp, or Planar PX191.

Going to be using for games or just general purpose usage ? if you using it for any games you'll want to get something with a nice fast refresh on it (which most new ones tend to have now anyway)

No games (!), just good color and contrast for graphic design use.

Just found dell is running a 25% offer on their 2001 again - that's $750. Not bad for a 1600x1200, I might just do that. Anyone have this monitor?

Usually can't go past a SONY imo, but they're usually a lot more costly than others too. I've got a couple of Philips ones here, can't beat them for price and have no problems with contrast etc either.

That dell one sounds like a bargin to me though.

I cannot get myself to move to a LCD. The colors are just not the same as CRT. Even with digital inputs it does not seem to make a difference.

Anyhow, I can't really answer your question. Just needed to chime in with my $0.02.

I have 3 lcd's but I get the lower 1024 end. Once I used one I could never go back to a crt.

I run a trinitron .22dpi 21" CRT at 1600x1200. As a developer, the number of windows I can have open on has been a big boost to my productivity. Couldn't afford a comparable lcd.

same here - 2 Viewsonic P810's - the best I've seen in a large LCD has been a Samsung 21" - It may even be 22" - what a display, but at about $1200 certainly no bargain, but I guess that at about $800 my ViewSonic's weren't all that much less. I figure I'll wait, seeing as all LCD displays are dropping in price pretty regularly.

I have a couple of customers with the dell flat's and they are a good LCD monitor, made even better when they come free with the system

After reading some steller reviews on them, I ended up getting a 2001FP from Dell - got 25% off too, which brought the price down to the planar - plus I got 1600x1200. For anyone else in the market - I can highly recommend the dell - sharp, no dead pixels, and a great resolution for the size.

I know this post is as old as dirt, but...

Dell is currently offering that 20" 2001FP for $561 - limited time offer, free shipping, pretty cheap

electricfox, if you're out there... still liking that monitor?

The Best quality Monitor I have seen is an AG NEOVO. Popular among tradeshow people. I like them better than the sonys and samsungs I looked at. http://www.neovo-usa.com/products/products.htm
The higher levels not value line which may be fine for what it is. I have a 19"(E-19A). Outstanding color clarity, accuracy. The glass optics on the top create a better image and protect the screen, easier to clean also. The response time is great. You can get the hydraulic arm if you like. I shopped around a long time and everyday I adore this monitor...and I am very picky....

I've been pretty happy with a 19" Philips, colour looks pretty natural and a 12ms response time isn't too shabby .. they're down to about $600NZ here which is $450US or so.

Most of the manufacturers listed are using the nicer LG phillips panels anyway. Response time should be good, but ironically if it is too fast picture quality can suffer. lcd technology is getting better all the way around. I was amazed at how good the color is on my AG monitor, text everything. Great black too. These monitors are the only ones I have seen w/ the optical overlay other than the mac screens, but the macs glare too much. These do not. They are not priced bad either.

Time will tell if it holds up. Has a 3yr warranty. Mine is only 6months old or so. Quality seems excellent. They have a value line w/o the glass that I am told is also good, but for me that glass made all the diff. For some things it creates an almost 3d effect. Playing HL2 was really nice and LOTR on DVD. They have some nicer ones too. AG isn't near as easy to find available tho.
