How much Does SSL cost?!
I already have one of my clients domain on a separate IP. So how much does it cost me to enable SSL for him. And, what is the limit? Thanks for ur help in advance. |

I don't know the cost of a SSL cert through Vortech but I know you can get one from Ev1servers.net for around 50 dollars... Now keep in mind not all SSL certs are the same... Sure most of them secure a web page the same way but some offer protection against fraud and stuff like... Others offer wild card services like subdomain.yourdomain.com would be covered
. Check around but expect to pay 300+ for one with some guaranteed protection... and less for the others… I my self always use ev1servers.net for SSL… they use to be even cheaper like 29 dollars but 50 dollars is a very good price because direct from GeoCom you will pay 150. |

I can give a thumbs up to SureSSL.com - I've had a cert from them for about a year now. Many to choose from, and some offer warranties for end users. Haven't needed it yet, but I think it's good for something
![]() It's a Comodo cert, not a Verisign or GeoTrust, but again, it's worked well for me, with good browser compatibility. |

Do I have to buy a separate SSL certif. for each user?

You have to buy a certificate for each domain that you need secured. The more expensive certificates do provide added 'features' and increased levels of security, but the $50 versions are sufficient for securing online transactions. The certificates are purchased by domain, on a yearly basis. You can purchase, in advance, multi-year certs as well. As the others have already mentioned, you can expect to spend $50-$100 minimum for a single Certificate, for one domain, for one year.
Incidentally, Vortech can supply GeoTrust SSL Certificates for $89 per. |

My experience with resold geotrust certs, i.e Ev1 servers.net has not been good.
Geotrust DOES NOT provide support for certs sold through EV1Servers.net, and EV1Servers.net tech support is basically non-existant for the certs. I would gladly pay a few dollares more to vortech than ev1 if I could get support when I need it. Question: if we purchase the geotrust cert from vortech, does vortech provide support, or geotrust.

also to expand on johnk's post, if you're using standard cert's (and not a wildcard cert) you will not only need one for each domain, but also for each subdomain if you need different subdomains on a cert.
Beware too, some people don't realize that if you pick up a cert for 'yourdomain.com' it won't work for 'www.yourdomain.com' - that's how specific they are. |

I have not had a problem with Ev1 GeoTrust certs at all... I mean really where is there something to go wrong
? Yeah make sure you pick your domain correctly. I allways just setup like secure.domain.com. Now if you have the big bucks you could get a wild card cert and not have to worry about it at all. |

If you purchase the cert through us, GeoTrust provides the support. Also, as far as I was aware, we do not offer or support Wildcard certificates.

Sorry people, I am a newbie here. I am hosting a customers website and have connected to a payment engine. Now I need a SSL certificate. Do I need to switch to dedicated IP first? And does that really take 24 hours downtime....
Also, once thats done, is the procedure simple for installing it??? Any help would be appreciated via email to not fill this message board with my stupid questions.... Many tanks to anybody who can push me in the right direction! |

Yes, you won't be able to setup a certificate until the site is on a dedicated IP.
Generally it will take 24 hours, the site IP has changed so DNS must propagate again. Installing the cert is a piece of cake. You might want to just read over the documentation as well. http://www.psoft.net/HSdocumentation/user/ssl.html |
