Any good site monitoring services out there that anyone can recommend?

I've been using Alertra for a year or so now for a mission critical site. They're been quite good for what I need:

siteuptime does look good, but i have 80 sites i want to monitor... that is pretty expensive...

Yes, but you CAN monitor them by the servers too... say, NTxx.bootnumlock.com... and you can be assured if it can't find that one, none of your sites on that server are up.
I shopped around a bit a couple years ago and they were the cheapest and best I found at the time... if you find something better or cheaper, do let us know!

also... a thought... if a number of us signed up for service from them and pooled the resource together, each taking a few monitors a piece and tying them all into our own database... hmm? They notify by email... and you can designate a secondary email address which we could set up as a mailing list and include everyone who opts in with us....

i think i am going to try to make montastic work... it has an rss feed, has a widget [none of the others have that
] and it has a great price...now, i just need to learn how to filter out the xml via xslt and show the sites that are currently DOWN.... nice little project for me... just what i need.

You could always just Run your own Nagios monitor that's what I do personally, though I'm now starting to get stuck into Zenoss that i'm liking for monitoring my ded's
I've also been playing with http://www.pingdom.com service and they don't seem to bad either.
