SQL Server Connection string

I'm just getting started here and appreciate advice on connecting to the MS SQL Servers. I am using .NET. I've been able to connect sending in uid and pwd but not trusted. I'm thinking that trusted connection is not possible with remote databases? Also, it is molasses slow. Any advice?
Thanks, PD

If you're connecting through Enterprise Manager, it's always slow on a shared server as it has to scan all th db's on the server. A recent release of EM (6 months ago ?) sped things up a lot.

You won't be able to use a trusted connection. Make sure your EM is fully service pack patched (it was actually a couple of years now that the speed issues were corrected as i recall, SP2 I think). Vortech also changed the default authentication stored procedure to limit the databases visible to a remote user which should have made things a lot faster for most people remotely.
