Brad, a lot of users have messages on their OUTBOX with attachments, just waiting to send since yesterday. This could be the reason to the rapid growth of the queue when you removed the filter... isn't it natural the queue going from 168 to 900 messages in less than 10 minutes when you "open the dam"?

If you are sure that is the worm the reason of the traffic, please find a patch to this as soon as possible!!

How can we patch it when there is no patch?? It's an email virus that emails everyone in your Outlook address book. Until everyone online becomes virus aware (which is highly doubtful it seems) these things will keep happening. The virus itself stops sending on September 10th but until then, I don't see them stopping.

I just added a post to the Network Status. Content filtering and AV-scanning are the only way to stop viruses and such at the server level. Even a simple perl script can bog down a machine when it receives 100-200 emails a minute.

Vixen, I would agree with you about email usage, but many people know how to use email and unless you use something as easy which lets you send documents back and forth with written notes. It is the only thing that works well for reasonable sized files. That includes graphics, many document formats, small cad files etc...

Hi Vixen. I believe what Crucial was suggesting was a modification to the way QMail processes/filters email, not for Vortech to find a way to patch every infected PC, which of course would be next to impossible.

Just wondering... What's inside the current mail1 server (CPU, RAM, etc.), and what other services does it currently run besides mail?

Its about 1.00 now and holding. We are just blocking .exe .com .scr and .pl now and that seems to be holding. We are going to upgrade mail and mail1 should be a simple switch to the new xeon systems. They are both SCA drives so they pull right out and just unscrew them put them in the new system and its ready to go.

Then we have plans to put DrWeb anti-virus and some spam tagging software on there.. I wish there was a good spam program to just delete them spam.. one that really works.

You might be amazed at some of the things we actually have to write, but right now it is mainly back-end stuff.

theirs a 10MB limit on email and the 10Mb includes all email header info etc, and the size of the depends, so the attachment shoudl be less than 10mb - searhc around the forum - this has been brought up a number of times
