idea for new subform topic

Have an idea for a new subform topic under Vortech customeres only.

"Code & Scripts"

A lot of use here code a bit and have posted and used scripts found in the forums in our hosting sites. The only problem is that the code and scripts are all over the place inthe forms and a search is not always that easy due to multiple posts etc.

A new subform could be used to ONLY request and post code and scripts. That way finding the stuff would be easy.

People will still post scripts in response to questions asked in other forums though too as examples etc and will be scattered all over the place.. useful code I guess could be posted in a separate forum, but your still going to have to search for stuff really anyway.

Theres a Development forum already which is probably not far from being a "scripts and code" forum too and you could just rename perhaps.

Good idea - but I tried this a long time ago, including trying to get members to post links to books, tips and tricks etc.... seemed to get a couple of replies then zilch... Might be worth another go though

Brad: Does the ticket system / Knowledge base have an option where members could add code snippets? Might be an alternative and make it easier to search and find things?

Yes, a central repository would be a nice idea. But I also agree that there could be a member training issue (i.e. how do you make sure everyone remembers to post code to the right place even when it's in response to a forum outside the designated script area?).

I wonder if there's a vbulletin hack or something that provides search filtering on only attachments or maybe all items in code tags. So if someone was searching for code, they would type in their keyword and check "search posted code". The search would return only threads (or posts) with code.

Instructions: This forum is where you should post your working code and scripts, please keep everything else in a different forum. Please title your post to describe your code or script. If you have a separate website, bulletn board or forum dedicated to your code or script, please post the url.

Once the forum is up I will contribute my little contact managment / client billing script geared to web designers. Its in beta, lots to add yet, but I use it to keep all my contacts, and bill my clients via credit card.
