Cross posted to ensure everyone sees it~!!!
As many of you who keep up on current events Microsoft has released articles and patches concerning a new worm threat. We have scanned and assesed it's impact on our system. It has been in-effectual at causing any real damage or compromising any systems, but constant hammering of our network as it attempts access has caused noticable slow downs and performance problems. Our systems have been effective at "locking out" any changes it attempted to make concerning access/paswords/users/privilages so no true security breech has happened at this time. We are however going through and manually updating all virus protection, installing the new M.S. certified patches and fixes, then scanning our systems to ensure no further threats reside. For most of you, you will not see any change in service at all during this period. A few users may notice limited account access while we're making changes, or a web service may be unreachable for short periods during reboots after the updates are applied. We will try to keep any downtime due to restarts short (a few minutes at most) so as to have little impact on your end users. Most if not all updates should be completed tonight, and things should be normal by morning. If you see sluggish performance on any of your windows based sites through the night tonight, this is the likely cause. Please do not submit a ticket based on this, as there will be an obvious performance decrease during the scan periods. If You still have performance issues tomorrow, let us know and we will look into your concern as lingering performance problems could be indicative of other issues. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we install these critical updates and add to the security of our network.
