Just wanted to get some clarification on the free asp components. Some of those that appeared on the list in the "Free ASP Components Thread" are quite expensive especially for an Enterprise type license. I would like to use ASPUPLOAD and ASPGRID ect. but don't want to do the development or tell clients they are free and then have them snatched away for licensing violations or any other reason. Just to be sure - are all of those on the list free, will they always be free, and will they always be there?

It would be great to have a page on the matrix site where customers can see what components are currently available instead of having to ask.

This is a great selling feature. Let's do it right.

They are free for you, they were not free free us.. :( We have had a lot of these for years..

When vortech Inc. first started we only did windows 2000 hosting so we had to have a lot of these things so we would buy the lic. to install it network wide under the same co.. :)

Dear Brad,

Sorry for this question, as I know little about ASP.

You have installed all the ASP components in most of the Win2K servers.

Now my question is, in a Win2K plan of my customer, where do I find and configure all those ASP components, in the H-Sphere control panel??

Please HELP!!

another_one:

The components aren't 'accessed' via the control panel - they are used via scripting commands / called / written into your asp code.

Components are like programs that are already compiled and ready to be run. When you use them in your script it is sor of like like calling them to run. Now, what all the wonderful free components we have been blessed with do, and where the documentation is on how to use the, I don't know. A search in a search engine is usually a good place to start, however, sometimes to get a users manual you have to purchase the components. Can Matrix make the documentation available?

Do we get the lastest version of the components when the upgrade is free. What if it's not? I don't suppose we can download them, can we. I do suppose that's a silly question. I'm just grateful we have what we have - and there FREE.

Dear All,

How to know the filename or program name and its full server path, when I called up to my own page??

Is there any list of all these things??

If you want to use a particluar component - the quickest method is to search the net using a search engine.

99.9% of them are extremely well documented on various sites, and most of the 'developers' sites carry 'help files and documentation / examples.

I don't wish to offend - as we are all learning in some way or another - but you can't expect Vortech / Matrix to publish every single bit of documentation. User manuals are readily available on the net as are numerous sources of examples.

How to use them in the ASP script??
Thats the million dollar question - as there are lots of different ways depending on what and how you want to do something.

AND.... (just to complicate matters) if you want to test your scripts 'before' uploading them to the server then unless you test 'live' - to work on your worksataion (localhost) your going to need a lot of them installed on your own computer.

Heres a list of some of them –
http://www.serverobjects.com/products.htm#aspmail
If you click on a server object – and scroll down you can also access the documentation.

Another good source (and info) –
http://www.aspobjects.com/ASP_Components/

FREE asp components –
http://www.15seconds.com/component/free.htm

Tutorials and scripts –
http://www.aspin.com/
http://www.programmersresource.com/default.asp

They should give you a head start – and provide lots of links for other info / details.

Hope this helps :)

I did a search for the Free ASP Components Thread, but only came up with this thread. Where do I find that thread with the list?

If you want to know what components are installed go to this site and download the ASP component checker

http://www.pensaworks.com/prg_com.asp

It works great, just download the file, then upload it to your site and run it through your browser (meaning surf to it).

Maybe there could be a thread that people can post all the goodies they have come across.

Try this list then

Many of the components have a link to their respective software makers.
